Walk for Diginity - October 5th
The Mental Health Association of East Central Florida presents Mental Illness Awareness Week's 54th Annual Walk for Dignity on Monday, October 5th.The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the City of Daytona Beach City Hall with the walk starting at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12:00 p.m. Please see attached flyer for location and more details.

Join us as we kick off the campaign season and wish our Day of Caring volunteers well with a fun pep rally and breakfast!
September 11, 2009 marks the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties' third annual Day of Caring. Following the Pep Rally, corporate volunteers will join United Way partner agencies to work on one-time service projects.
September 11th, a National Day of Service & Remembrance, also marks the culmination of President Obama's United We Serve charge. This summer, the President is calling on all Americans to participate in our nation's recovery and renewal by serving our communities and to help lay a new foundation for growth.
Continental Breakfast and refreshments will be served at no charge. Be sure to wear your Live United or United Way t-shirts.

1. ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION-CENTRAL & NORTH FL CHAPTER - Volunteers are needed to assist with information tables at community health fairs and expos throughout Volusia & Flagler counties.
2. AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY – Office volunteers are needed for various office tasks including mailings, brochure foldings, and answering phones.
3. BIG BROTHERS, BIG SISTERS*** - Long term volunteers are needed as mentors working with school age children in the areas of academics, social skills, and behavior.
4. BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF VOLUSIA/FLAGLER COUNTIES - Volunteers are needed in surrounding communities to be homework tutors and activities directors working with children of all ages.
5. BUREAU OF BRAILLE AND TALKING BOOK LIBRARY SERVICES - Volunteers are needed to convert recorded books in analog format to digital format.
6. CENTRAL FLORIDA SPORTS COMMISSION*** - Volunteers are needed October 31 to assist with a half marathon; help needed includes assistance with registration, set-up, start/finish lines, and water stops.
7. DEPARTMENT OF ELDER AFFAIRS - Florida’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program needs volunteers to identify, investigate and resolve elderly residents’ concerns. Special training and certification is provided.
8. DOMESTIC ABUSE COUNCIL - Volunteers are needed to take crisis hotline calls at designated times at the emergency shelter; maintenance volunteers for the shelter facility area also needed.
9. EASTER SEALS JOEY’S GIFT*** - Respite Care Volunteers are needed to serve as playtime companions to children with special needs while their caregivers have some personal time off (September 25 in Deland).
10. JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF VOLUSIA COUNTY - Volunteers are needed for JA program presentations in the Volusia County schools. Background checks are required; training is provided.
11. POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE*** - Volunteers are needed to tutor and mentor elementary and middle school children in an after-school tutoring program.
12. THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR, INC. - Volunteers are needed to work with children to mentor and tutor in their homework club in Deland; background checks are required.
13. UNITED WAY OF VOLUSIA/FLAGLER COUNTIES*** - Super Volunteers are needed; these volunteers will have the opportunity to work with all departments within United Way; assisting with database management and entry, administrative duties, project development, special events, and marketing. Strong computer and phone skills a must, as well as week-day availability.
14. VOLUSIA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE - A volunteer assistant is needed in the evidence facility in Deland; duties include light physical work and some office assignments as well.
15. VOLUSIA FLAGLER FAMILY YMCA - A volunteer is needed to serve on the Flagler YMCA Brand Board.
16. WEST VOLUSIA TOURISM ADVERTISING AUTHORITY - Volunteers are needed at the downtown Deland Visitor Center to greet visitors and provide tourism information.
